"Trapped" is the sixth episode of the first season of Sammy & Co. It premiered on December 25, 2015, on Netflix.
Synopsis
When Ricky and Ella hunt for a magnifying glass for Pipo's nearsighted father, Ella gets locked inside a human hut, and Ricky must save her.[4]
Plot
The episode opens in the reef village where Arthur has been bumping into various sea creatures while he is swimming around the palaver tree with his son Pipo. Pipo is visibly annoyed at his father after he bumps into Ricky, Ella, and Annabel, and tells him that they gotta “do something about” it. His father, however, misinterpreted his son as him saying that the other villagers are not only clumsy, but they're also very impolite to him after they bump into him, not knowing it is he who bumps into them and not the other way around. Once his father swims away, Pipo tells Ricky and Ella about his situation about his father's blindness and refuses to admit about it since “it's a question of pride for him”. Pipo wishes he could help his father, but he really doesn't know what to do to take care of him since he's basically his guide around the village. Ricky suggests that Pipo's father needs glasses similar to that of a human and he remembers the beach hut on the island where a human lived there during a visit. Ella tells Ricky that it's too dangerous for him to go onto the island and she knows Sammy would never allow them to do so, but Ricky teases her that she might be scared which makes Ella having to tag along with her best friend to help him.
On the island, Ricky and Ella are walking on the beach to get to the hut and while they're on their way there, Ricky tells Ella that she has nothing to fear since he'll be on her side to protect her. After the two turtles find the glasses, Ricky goes outside to check if there are any seagulls around and when he doesn't see them, they're about to leave the hut when all of a sudden, the wind blows and it shuts the door, locking Ella inside with the glasses. Ricky tries to open the door, but it won't budge and the door's too heavy for him to pull it back. Initially, Ricky is about to get back to the water to get Sammy for help, but he wants to do it on his own.
However, just as the situation didn't get any worse, Paul, Ringo, and George all arrived and they perch on a nearby palm tree. The three seagulls all see Ricky below them and after their brief argument over how they could sneak down to capture the young leatherback, Paul swoops down and he nearly gets Ricky if he doesn't move out of his way and causes the seagull to bump into the hut door instead. Knowing that he has another problem on his flippers, he retreats to the water to get someone's help to free Ella. The seagulls are about to give up when Paul finds out that Ricky is talking to someone inside the hut and after he looks in the window, he sees Ella trapped inside and he devises a plan to his fellow seagulls to capture her as well.
While Ricky is at the shell school and recruits Lulu to rescue Ella, the seagulls are eating the hut's straw roof so they could inside. And with the time running out and Ella is in danger of being eaten, Ricky and Lulu have to open the hut's door as soon as possible to save her. However, Lulu is unable to open the door after he climbs up to turn the knob and he falls down to the sand. The seagulls, noticing what Lulu and Ricky are doing, all swoop down and start attacking Ricky, who dodges the blows with difficulty. Lulu manages to save his student by grabbing Ringo and George by their beaks with the uses of his pincers and knocks both of them out. Lulu informs Ricky that he's not strong enough to open the door, and Ella, overhearing the conversation from outside, tells Ricky that they need to go get Albert. Despite Albert is obviously a shark and he is unable to get out of the water, Ricky has no other choice but to follow Ella's plan before the seagulls get inside the hut. Lulu notices a nearby rope and pulls it to the water where he follows his student to Albert's den.
After they ask the shark for their help and tie one end of the rope around his body, Lulu and Ricky are back on the beach while holding the other end of the rope and ties it to the doorknob of the hut. Ricky thumps the rope and signals Albert to pull it. The shark manages to get the door to open, but their plan is foiled when Paul notices what they're doing and chews on the rope which breaks it. And to make it even worse, after Paul broke the rope, he charged down from the sky and broke through the roof with ease.
Ella, fearing for her life, immediately gets inside a nearby boot to hide. Paul was initially going to grab her, but George suggests to the seagull that he should give it up and the three all start waiting patiently for Ella to come out eventually. Knowing that the three won't go away until one of them eats her, Ella knows it's now only up to her to use her intelligence to solve the situation and save herself from being captured. She notices that the sunlight is shining through the lenses of the glasses which causes a straw to be on fire.
Noticing a firecracker near the boot, Ella uses her flippers and swats the firecracker to where the glasses are. The lenses from the glasses start a fire through the use of heat from the sun which led to the firecracker bursting inside the hut. This causes panic for the seagulls as they all try to fly out of the hut to get away from the smoke from the firecracker and they open the hut door to escape, which they unintentionally let Ella freed and she, Ricky, and Lulu all get back to the water with the glasses.
Once they all make it back to the reef after their daring rescue mission, Ricky and Ella bring the glasses to Pipo's father. But aside from the glasses are too big for a sea creature to wear, the adult butterfly fish sees the glasses as "silliness" from Ricky and Ella so he swims away without showing any concern for his poor eyesight. The two turtles were initially disappointed that what they did was completely all for nothing, but they decided to have fun with the glasses anyway to make up for it.
Later, the two kids are using the glasses as a water ski and Albert as their "boat" as they're skiing above the reef. Sammy and Ray both noticed their respective grandchild playing with the glasses, but they decided that they really don't want to know how they found the glasses and watch the kids having fun.

Trivia
- In the French version, the episode is called "Prise au piège".
- When Ricky jokes around with the glasses, he called himself "a giant mutant sea turtle". This is a reference to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
- Because the seagulls are all unnamed in A Turtle's Tale 2: Sammy's Escape from Paradise, this episode revealed the names for two of the four seagulls are Paul and Ringo. However, George's name isn't mentioned nor revealed yet in this episode until "The Walk of the Butterfly Fish". Also, the seagull whom Sammy and Ray rescued after he was accidentally captured by a group of poachers in the film didn't appear in this episode until "The Walk of the Butterfly Fish" where his name is revealed to be John.
- When Ricky is playing around with the glasses inside the hut, sunlight is shining through the lens of the glasses. This foreshadowed the solution to Ella's problem when she needs to find a way to escape from the seagulls by having the heat from the sun shining through the glasses caused a firecracker to burst which lead to the seagulls unintentionally freeing her while trying to escape from the smoke.
- Due to the size of the glasses, it's logically impossible for any fish to wear it underwater so that would mean Arthur wearing the glasses won't help him see any better.
- This is the first episode in which Albert is used by the kids to help to pull something heavy to save someone who's trap inside.
- This is the first episode that heavily features Ricky and Ella having to avoid getting themselves eaten by the seagulls.
- Lulu mentioned in this episode that his favorite sport is wall climbing.
Errors
- The Netflix synopsis incorrectly calls the glasses a "magnifying glass".
- If Ricky pushed the stick or pulled it while standing on the other side, he would have managed to pry open the door. He just did not take into account the laws of physics and therefore did not rescue Ella.
- When the seagulls are all panicking and are trying to get out the hut when the firecracker lights out smoke, one scene accidentally shows four seagulls flying out instead of three.
